Alteraciones fetales debidas a la infección congénita por citomegalovirus

Resumen
En la etapa prenatal el citomegalovirus es la principal causa infecciosa que ocasiona alteraciones como el retraso mental y la sordera neurosensorial. La transmisión intrauterina y los resultados adversos están relacionados principalmente con la infección materna primaria, pero también puede ocurrir una reactivación del virus durante el embarazo, dando lugar a la infección congénita. En ausencia de una vacuna o tratamiento antiviral específico que pueda ser administrado de forma segura a las mujeres embarazadas con la infección primaria, la única opción es realizar el diagnóstico de manera prenatal para tener un mejor manejo y seguimiento de las complicaciones fetales.
