Resumen

La diabetes mellitus (DM) es un padecimiento metabólico, que en México ocupa el cuarto lugar en causas de mortalidad desde l989,  ocasionado por la insuficiencia endocrina de liberación de insulina, por las células  del páncreas. A largo plazo la hiperglicemia resulta en daño de los nervios (neuropatía), de los vasos pequeños (microangiopatía) y de los vasos de gran calibre (macroangiopatía).
